Nature is calling you.
Killiehuntly finds itself nestled in some of Europe’s most awe-inspiring landscapes. The hidden depths and wide open spaces of the Cairngorm National Park are pretty to look at, for sure - but these forests, mountains and lochs are beckoning you in and inviting you to explore.
Our friends who stay at Killiehuntly, whether in our farmhouse or a self-catering cottage, are very welcome to get in touch with our friendly bookings team to arrange a variety of memorable experiences in the wild. If you are taking Killiehuntly on an exclusive-use basis, then we would be very happy to organise some bespoke outings while you stay with us.
Come, let’s explore.
NATURE WALKS
Much is said about the healing power of nature - its ability to take us out of the everyday and let us focus on what really matters. Walking lets your mind and conversation wander and for us, that is truly one of life’s lost luxuries. Our team will be very happy to point you in the direction of some good routes, or to arrange a guided nature walk so you can experience the richness of this landscape.
4X4 TOURS
Whilst we are great evangelists for long walks and a slow pace of life, sometimes the only way to truly grasp the scale and majesty of the nature surrounding us is by joining a guided 4x4 tour. Led by our conservationists, men and women who know this landscape like the back of their hands, our 4x4 tours take you through the foot of the glen, across rushing rivers and up to the mountain tops.
Please book your 4x4 tour prior to arrival.
PONY PICNICS
Perhaps the most memorable way to immerse yourself in this landscape - both its beauty and its culture - is to join a Killiehuntly pony picnic. Ponies have been used for centuries to help man work on the hills. Today, our herd of wild working ponies lead our guests into the hidden nooks of the Cairngorms, carrying provisions for a wonderful picnic. Alongside our trusty ponies, our keepers are on hand to guide you through the forest and hillsides. If ever there was a way to truly slow down and take nature’s pace, this is it.
FISHING TUITION
The lochs and rivers surrounding Killiehuntly offer some wonderful opportunities for the happy beginner. You’ll be in the safe (and dry-witted) hands of our ghillies, who have fished these waters for decades.
BIKE HIRE
An energetic way to get out into the wild. Our fat tire mountain bikes are always available for hire whenever the fancy takes you.
WILD SWIMMING
Part of immersing yourself in the wild is opening yourself up to the spiritual cleansing that nature can offer. In Scandinavia as is Scotland, plunging yourself into the icy waters of a loch or river pool is a long tradition. It makes the heart beat faster, the blood rush and your skin tingle. We are always happy to advise on good spots for a cold dip.
THE SAUNA YURT
Use of Killiehuntly’s wild sauna yurt, which you will find nestled between a cluster of ancient trees, if offered to all guests with our compliments. Our sauna yurt is heated by a slow-burning wood fire to reach around 80C, making for a nice healthy sweat. For the brave sauna goers among us, we have built a little cold plunge pool in a wooden tub outside - the ideal way to round off your time of relaxation.
